We have arrived...
Ian Ybarra
Steve Yastrow has a great post today on the Tom Peters blog about teaching a hotel industry audience that business is human. My only qualm is when he said
...we have arrived at a point in time where genuine human encounter in business is more valued than ever. It is accepted and expected to go beyond the strict bounds of business to create meaningful business relationships.
he should have made those last three words "meaningful personal relationships."

One of the semantical challenges over the past few years has been how to refer to "relationships."
When Steve wrote his first book, Brand Harmony, in 2002, and earlier when I was writing about one-to-one marketing, we talked about having a relationship with a product or the company. This was to help businesses start to think of customers as individuals -- not just as one big mass of people.
Since then, "social networking" sites like LinkedIn and MySpace have made it easy for business people to connect with other business people and customers.
But are these business relationships "personal" relationships? Probably not at first.
However, Steve is always encouraging people to grow them into personal business relationships and personal social relationships.
